My problem is that my
modem will not detect dialing tone, I can only log on by disconnecting the
modem cable from the telephone line, establishing a dialing tone then
connecting from the dial up icon, and when the modem logs on, replacing the

Enable Anti-Virus software I have to re-boot my PC, when re-booted my Modem
is disconnected & have to go to My Computer - Properties - Device
Manager to reload the drivers for my Modem every time my PC is either Shut
Down or Restarted, but when Anti-Virus software is disabled my modem works
perfectly, I have tried the Anti-Virus software on Ontrack's Fix-It 4.0 and
AVG 6.0 Anti-Virus system (Free Edition) (as advertised in Computer Active)
with both programs producing the same results. I have consulted the
Technical staff at PC World and they have never come across the problem so
could not offer me any advice. I have contacted Ontrack and they say that my
modem driver files must contain a Virus and are hence being deleted on
Start-Up, but how can this be when only a few days ago I re-formatted my C
Drive and re-installed Windows.
Modem, does
not make a sound when you click connect although it does it's job and connects, have
tried looking in all the normal places, volume controls etc nothing muted
My
new pc runs XP. When connecting to the internet I can't hear the modem which
I did on my old Me pc. I've enabled modem speaker and set max volume but no
luck. I can live without it but it reassures me the modem is working.
I
seem to have a modem with a mind of it's own!!!
When Ever the P.C. is booted up the modem automatically starts dialing even
though there is no programs trying to access the internet.
After
formatting my computer it is not connecting to my modem. I have checked
setting and modem is install but when checking diagnostics and more info I
am getting the message "please check port settings" I am sure that

I
am having problems with my modem on win\me. I have installed the driver
loads of times but when I put in my i.s.p details in and try to connect the
system says it cannot find my modem....i have been through the
troubleshooter with no luck....when I installed it it asks which port I want
to use....com1\com2,but when it is installed and i check the settings
com1\com2,are grayed out........I have checked in device manager for
multiple modems and cleared any modem in there and started again but still
same problems
