Freeware Freeware programs are either distributed for the love of humanity, for fame, or as stripped down versions of programs that do cost money. Remarkably, some of the very best programs for using the Internet are completely free. Most freeware, even though it's not commercially sold, is copyrighted by the author. Always check the license agreement if you consider using the application for anything than your personal use. Servers Alive is a feature rich network monitor. It can monitor any WinSock
service (TCP:FTP, HTTP, POP3, SMTP, IMAP4, DNS,... and UDP:Radius and Quake II
etc.), ping a host/machine, check if an NT Service is running (which can be
restart by Servers Alive), check if an NT process is running, monitor the
available disk space on a remote machine, check for the correct content of a
webpage, check a MS SQL server, check an Oracle database and so on. The program
offers a variety of notification options including SMS, email, pager and even
ICQ or MSN Messenger notifications. It comes with an optional built-in web
server to serve a status page, ftp upload, escalation schemes and much much

NetGraph is a small network connection monitoring tool, that shows a realtime
graph of your download and upload activity for the selected interface. In
addition to the graph display, it also comes with a dynamic tray icon and an

SmartSniff
SmartSniff is a TCP/IP packet capture program that allows you to inspect network
traffic that passes through your network adapter. The two pane interface
displays the captured packet and detailed information in ASCII or Hex view
below. Additional features include colour coding of local and remote traffic,
export to HTML and more. SmartSniff can use in Windows 2000/XP Raw Sockets or
WinPcap for other versions of Windows. A basic, but very small and standalone

It runs in the system tray and shows your computer name and IP address when double-clicked. You can then choose to copy your IP to the clipboard. In addition to the local (LAN) IP, it also shows the external (WAN) IP address, which is useful if you are behind a router.

SendTo FTP SendTo FTP allows you to upload files from the Windows Explorer right-click menu. It allows you to maintain multiple profiles and quickly send a selected file to the remote FTP server without having to launch your FTP program first. It supports passive transfers, firewall settings, configurable ascii and binary settings and more. A very useful tool for webmasters that want to quickly upload one or more files.

It works with a wide range of clients including web browsers, ICQ, MSN Messenger and many others. Features include user authentication to both an internal user database or to a windows domain, extensive reporting, resource permissions, URL filtering, IP address filtering, local port binding, on-demand dialing, calendar control, proxy chaining and numerous other features. FreeProxy also includes a small web server and can run as a service on all current platforms. Very detailed help is included that documents all aspects of the setup and client configuration. home page DynDNS Updater DynDNS Updater is an utility which can be used to automatically update your IP address database in DynDNS ( a free DNS service at www.dyndns.org/) server. The program can update multiple hosts within one account and update multiple account simultaneously and automatically within specified time interval.DynDNS Updater works with a modem or proxy connection and also offers a built-in logging facility.

It offers a Windows XP look and feel and features including SSL (Implicit/Explicit), FXP Support, Multiple connections, Proxy Firewall support, Drag and Drop from Explorer, and Remote Directory caching and more. SmartFTP offers support for Unicode/UTF8/MBCS, IPv6, and UPnP. (Installer will download up between 1mb and 6mb of additional files.)

LANguard You can even customize the database, add custom criteria and specify alert flags based on your preference. With the information from LANguard security scanner, you can proactively starting securing your network - shutting down unnecessary ports, shares etc.The program also produces very nice HTML reports if needed. If you are interested in network security, you cannot afford not to use this tool! Even for non-professionals, it will provide great in depth information about your local LAN. (Some functions only available for NT/Win2k). Free version has some advanced features disabled (scheduled scans, report generator, result comparison deployment) but is well suited for most users.

DirectUpdate for IPUpdater DirectUpdate for IPUpdater is a special version of DirectUpdate, that is limited to the use of the free IPUpdater.com DNS services. DirectUpdate is a dynamic DNS updater that runs as an NT service and automatically updates your IpUpdater DNS accounts as soon as your IP changes. This allows you to assign a static name (myname.ipupdater.com) to your computer which can be used for many internet services, including FTP servers, Mail servers, Chat servers, web cams, web sites and more.
